Supporting your child at home

Each child has individual targets to work on that reflect their age and stage within the EYFS curriculum. We will send home a copy of their next step targets to keep you updated with what we will be focusing on at school. Please feel free to support their learning at home using these next steps and let us know how they are getting on by writing comments in their green home contact book.

We will also send home observation updates via email from our 2simple build a profile.

We have come up with some ideas/activities to support your child at home with their mathematic skills.

  • Encourage your child to look for numbers on a walk or around the house
  • count how many fish fingers are on their plate
  • can they make a number line on the floor - this could be stepping stones to some 'treasure'
  • play games involving cards or dice

Extensive research carried out by the National Literacy Trust has found that for all children, reading activity at home has significant influence on their reading achievement; that reading comprehension is related not only to provision of books in the home, but also to conversations between adults and children about books and articles they have read and also that parents' and carers' attitudes and support towards their children's learning influence performance on literacy tests.  Reading with your child is a good investment of your time and we would really encourage parents to read every day with their child.  Do talk to your class teacher about how we can support you in helping your child with reading.
