French

Welcome to French at St Nicolas and St Mary CE Primary School!

Here you will find our French curriculum map as well as French milestones detailing the journey our children make in their modern foreign language learning from year 3 to year 6.  At our school, we are passionate about learning French in fun and engaging ways and hope we are able to introduce all our pupils to the many exciting opportunities that learning a new language can bring.

Our French Vision

At our school, children are excited by the possibilities that learning modern foreign languages bring. Speaking another language, both at school and different languages within families, is celebrated as an opportunity to widen our knowledge and understanding of people and cultures. Children are provided with real life opportunities to apply their new language skills; every year, children in Upper Key Stage 2 exchange letters with our link school giving pupils the opportunity to make friends in France. We run annual French cafés (a yearly highlight!), use music and songs, rhymes and games to teach children French in a fun and engaging way. Children are given the skills to explore French through both spoken and written experiences. Our pupils develop a love of learning about new people, cultures and places in preparation for later life. For, with a strong foundation for learning languages our children are equipped with the desire to travel, study and work abroad and celebrate what we can learn from people of other cultures and countries as part of an international community.
