Writing

We teach children to write using exciting stimuli such as quality first texts, animations, stories or drama at the start of units and ensure that children’s writing has a real life purpose wherever possible for example stories being read to a younger year group, articles going in the school newspaper or entering national competitions. Writing is cross- curricular and links to the class topic using a variety of different genres. Towards the end of a unit of work, children apply the skills they have been learning and recap features of the specific genre before writing an independent Star Write. This is then edited and fed back on, before children write a published version to be shared.

Handwriting is taught regularly throughout the school following the Nelson Handwriting Programme.
