Computing

Welcome to Computing at St Nicolas and St Mary CE Primary School!

Here you will find our computing curriculum map as well as computing milestones detailing the journey our children make in computing from year 1 to year 6. As a school, we strive for innovative and inspirational learning in all we do and our computing curriculum is designed to give our children many opportunities to experience this.

Our Computing Vision

We aim for every child to be a digitally literate, cognitive, creative and safe user of technology across (and outside of) the curriculum. All children, especially those with additional needs, should have a developing confidence and enthusiasm for using technology to assist their learning with growing independence. Our teaching of computing will cover:

Digital literacy – an understanding of how computers and technology can be used, including a variety of inputs and outputs. Extra-curricular computing provides additional challenge for excellence.

Computational thinking – the ability to analyse and solve problems through abstraction, decomposition and algorithms - this can be done with or without a computer!

Creativity – designing, manipulating and producing programs and presentations. Utilising inputs and outputs to create visual, auditory and three-dimensional products.

Online-safety – understanding why being safe online is so vital. The understanding and practice of being “SMART” at all times (Safe, Meeting, Accepting, Reliable, Tell). An open dialogue between home and school, supporting and promoting e-safety, including its bearing on spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
