Little Fishes Team

Monday 15th June

Dearest Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your support and patience over the last week as we have gradually welcomed more children back to nursery. It has been so wonderful to welcome back more and more families each day. The children have all made such fantastic transition back to our ‘new normal’ routines at nursery.

We are also thinking of all of our children who are at home and hope that you can join in with some of the activities listed below.

Last week we focussed on learning about our own ‘bubble’ and how to keep safe and happy in our own bubble. The children have been fantastic at following our extra hygiene routines. They have also settled back into circle times and group times so well and they are all full of energy and willing to learn which is fantastic!

Both Spotty and Stripy fish classes have been spending the majority of the time outside- in the learning garden- making potions and colour mixing, in the cherry tree playground where the children were encouraged and taught how to pick the correct colour cherries, the children washed them and we all got to taste some! Delicious!

We have also loved playing running and catching games in the large field, building dens in the bushes and wading through the long swishy grass at the back of the field, which we all thoroughly enjoyed!

This week we will be looking at the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’:

  • We will be learning to re tell the story, focussing on the repeated refrains.
  • We will play running races and using a timer to measure how long it takes to run away from each of the characters.
  • We will be making boats using different recycled junk to see which is the strongest to hold the gingerbread man.
  • We will be making our own ginger smelling playdough gingerbread men, decorating it, and taking it home.
  • We will be decorating real gingerbread men biscuits later in the week.

Phonics

This week, both our Spotty and Stripy Fish classes will be starting our Read Write Inc reading and writing programme in line with the rest of the school.

Each day we will be learning a new phoneme. This week will be as follows:

  • Monday 15th          m
  • Tuesday 16th              a
  • Wednesday 17th     s
  • Friday 19th :            d

We will learn how to say, read and write each phoneme. We will repeat and practise the phonemes each day.

Maths

  • We will continue to use counting throughout the day- when doing the register, when lining up, when splitting into groups etc.
  • We will be using a dice to roll to count how many buttons we will add to our gingerbread men.

We will be singing lots of number songs including:

  • 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer
  • 5 Currant Buns
  • Ten in a Bed
  • 5 Little Ducks
